Gear Review: Lanterns and Area Lights

There are a lot of reasons to need a portable area light. Camping, power outage, working on an engine, night activities near sleeping people, hiking, and more.

I will add more reviews to this page so check back!

Tevole Telescopic Lamp/Flashlight

This is my favorite!  As a flashlight, it is perfect. Feels good in the hand, has a hanging lantern mode.

As an area light, the tripod is awesome. I use the tripod for other devices as well. It is sturdy and well designed. More recently I have started attaching my 360 cam to it for telescoping over my head from my backpack.

Pros

  • Size - Fits into backpack tripod slot. Extends to over 72"
  • Plenty bright. Flashlight works great in the woods. Lantern will light up your tent site.
  • Versatile. Flashlight, area light, lantern, hanging lamp, tripod/monopod. Magnet mount work light. Remote control.
  • Sturdy. Metal housing on stand.
Cons

  • Small battery - lantern on low will last a day, but on high, only a few hours
  • Limited functions from remote. You can only control lantern functions with remote. Flashlight only available from flashlight button.
  • Remote pops off too easy. It does include a protective bag to carry the light in.

AsFrost Telescopic Flashlight

A great, compact utility light. Not the brightest, not the dimmest. Sturdy, but is mostly plastic.

This light has so many functions - it comes in handy nearly daily for me.

Honorable Mention

These are a few area lights I have, that I wanted to mention. For me they are back-up lights, special use lights and have their place.
