This was the most amazing trip I had taken so far.

A little background – my daughter Missy, her husband Pete and my grandkids live near Haiku on Maui. This gives me an excuse to visit nearly every year.

In 2022, I took the low budget trip and stayed entirely at their house (in an RV on their property) which was awesome. I got to see the island from the viewpoint of residents instead of as a tourist.

Summary

This year I wanted the tourist experience, so I spent a week in the resort and finished my trip with a few days at the kids’ house (no RV this time. Slept in the grand kids room).

My son, Aiden has joined me on every trip to Maui so far.

Stayed most of the time at a resort; Aston Ka’anapali Shores.

Our view off the lanai was amazing.

I have to show my grandkids Will and Addie. I am so proud of both of them.

Food

Food trucks and restaurants. Local foods. Coconuts prepared 100 different ways. Loved the food. Even some fruits I have never heard of, that taste amazing!

Tourists

Earlier in 2024, me and Aiden were certified for scuba diving, so we did a guided dive.

Warm water, light gear and great visibility made this dive the best one I have been on so far.

Lahaina Dive

Abby from Dive Maui was an amazing guide. https://goscubadivemaui.com/

We were diving near a collapsed pier off Lahaina Beach.

There are quite a few videos from my GoPro of our dive.

The best images I captured on on the YouTube channel; but here are a few pics.

Surfing

Me and Aiden took our very firs surfing lesson. I could not believe how bad my balance and coordination had become!

I do need to give credit to our instructor and everyone that surfs – I always thought surfing looked lazy and easy….just a bunch of people sitting on floating boards, waiting for something to happen. I was wrong. Surfing kicked my ass! I was so tired and sore… not to mention the rashes on my legs and arms from the board (yes, I was wearing rash guards). It was hard work, but very rewarding. I love being in the water.

You won’t see me standing in the photos – I kept falling too quickly. Aiden (long, waivy hair) was a natural though. He did awesome.

We survived and it was a great experience.

Sailing and Snorkeling

I scheduled us a 4 hour sailing and snorkeling tour that took us off the coast of Lahaina.

Sail Maui: https://sailmaui.com/

There were snacks and beverages on bored. Maybe 20-30 people all together.

Aiden found it boring because he had nothing to do and wasn’t interested in snorkeling right over the same place we were scuba diving the day before.

I love being on the boat, in the water, and snorkeling so I had a great time!

The views were so breathtaking. I was literally floating in a dream.

Snorkling was great too. Had my GoPro with me. Caught a few people freediving – something I’d like to get better at!

Videos on my YouTube channel (until I figure out how to embed them here!)

Hiking

As you will soon see from most of my site posts, I love hiking. My son loves hiking and bird watching. No better place to see birds than Maui!

My Family’s Home

We stayed here the last few days of the trip. Beautiful place.

And that’s it for now!
